| The HALI Archive - Information
|
| The HALI Archive is a collection of transparencies, slides and black and white prints of carpets, textiles and related images and arts.
The core of the collection is the photographic archive of Lefevre & Partners, specialist oriental carpet and textile auctioneers who traded in London from the late 1960s until 1985. We own images in black and white or colour in a variety of formats (10" x 8", 5" x 4", 35mm) of almost every item that passed through their hands between 1978 and 1985.
The collection contains images of: - tribal weavings, from Iran, The Caucasus, Turkey and Central Asia - textiles, mainly from Central Asia and Turkey - 'classical' oriental carpets, of the type featured in Renaissance paintings
We also hold a large number of slides of carpets, textiles, decorative details, and people and places. Our roving editors and contributors have taken these over the last ten years.
This part of the collection includes: - the Gion Festival in Kyoto - a vast procession of decorated floats, which is one of the cultural highlights of the year in this part of Japan - the cities and carpet weaving areas of Morocco, Iran and Turkey - many images of Istanbul, including the Grand Bazaar - international carpet, textile and art fairs and exhibitions.
