Nunzio Crisa reports from Wiesbaden: In these times of economic blues the art market holds position, although becoming more and more selective by the day. As reported in a major US newspaper after the recent round of New York sales for Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary Art “The results achieved reaffirmed market’s demand for iconic works from established artists”. And the market for rugs and textiles looks much the same, particularly after Rippon Boswell’s Spring Collector Carpets and Textiles sale of 23 May 2009. Again, as with paintings, ‘iconic’ items did indeed sell, albeit sometimes at substantially reduced prices.
