It was on 1 July 2010 that US President Barak Obama signed the 'Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Ac' (H.R. 2194), legislation that expands US sanctions against Iran in response to the country’s nuclear activity. The new law will ban many Iranian imports to the United States, including rugs, and takes effect on 29 September 2010.

HALI readers, especially in India, should keep a sharp eye open on the market for a pair of 19th century Persian fine silk carpets that stolen from The Lily Pool Palace in Jaipur, Rajasthan, the private quarters of the Jaipur royal family. The theft took place earlier this summer, and is believed to be an "inside Job".

Frank Martin Diehr reports: On 3 July 2010, a hot and sweltering day in southern Germany, some thirty German, Swiss and Austrian Baluch rug aficionados ignored the 22 men kicking a spherical piece of plastic in South Africa (Germany were playing Argentina) and met at Galerie Kelim in a Collector’s meeting.
