Of Royal and Noble Descent, Sotheby’s London, 24 February
Among the wide range of consignments, including paintings, furniture, silver, ceramics, jewellery, objets d’art, and luxury curiosities, ‘all descending from or with a strong connection to royal and aristocratic European collections’, to be offered in Sotheby’s ‘Of Royal and Noble Descent’ sale on 24 February 2015 is a small group of oriental and European carpets. In addition to a very typical small format 17th century red-ground Esfahan carpet, lot 221, estimated at only £7,000-9,000, as well as a circa 1800 Chinese medallion carpet, lot 222 (estimate £2,000-4,000), both from a South German private collection, there is a small group of 19th century East Caucasian rugs (one Shirvan and three blue-ground Talish long rugs, lots 223-226) consigned as the ‘property of a lady’, at extremely inviting estimates.
