The Dutch auction house Peerdeman’s special sale of Indonesian and Asian Textiles from a private European collection was held in their rooms at Mississippidreef 17, in the city of Utrecht, on Saturday 22 June. According to Peerdeman’s Niek Montanus, the sale went very well, with ‘a lot of visitors from abroad’ in attendance.
In addition to geringsing double-ikat ceremonial cloths from Bali, the consignment included tampans and tapis from southern Sumatra, and a variety of batik cloths (among them an prestigious Javanese cotton and silk dodot or ceremonial skirt, and a Javanese cotton batik wall hanging with European influences), There was also a wide selection of minority textiles from the hill-tribes of northern Thailand, Laos and southern China, including the Hmong, Meo, Akha and Yao.
