The annual auction of Arts of the American West at Sotheby’s, New York is to be held on 21 May 2014. The sale features the distinguished collection of Linda Marcus, comprising masterworks from the Comanche, Crow, Sioux, Tsimshian and Tlingit tribes. Also included are a Zuni manta, several late Navajo blankets, beaded hide garments, carved wooden masks and ceramics, as well as Western paintings. The prize lot is likely to be a rare and important Comanche painted hide shield estimated at $300,000-450,000.
