Christie’s NY, Connoisseur’s Eye, 20 May 2014

Christie’s ‘Connoisseur’s Eye’ sale at Rockefeller Center in New York on 20 May  2014 includes a selection of 66 Oriental carpets, mainly larger size high quality Persian decoratives, but with a sprinkling of collectables, fine silks and worn but still beautiful classical carpets.

Many of the carpets come from private collections, including the those of Dustin Hoffman, the Dowager Viscountess Rothermere and more. Among the many highlights are a rare and refined silk Kerman prayer rug, an Indian carpet that is a copy of an important 16th century Persian carpet in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and a Ziegler Sultanabad carpet from western Persia that was in the historic Elveden Hall sale in 1984.
