Bonhams Islamic Week Textiles, 23 October 2017
Over the years, Bonhams’ twice-yearly auctions of Islamic and Indian Art in London have been a steady, if not prolific, source of good antique textiles. This autumn’s sale on Monday 23 October is no exception, with a number of interesting examples on offer at competitive prices.
There is an 8th century Sogdian samite fragment (£8,000-12,000), as well as a fine Ottoman silk and metal thread lampas panel from the second half of the 16th century (£20,000-30,000), a late 17th/early 18th century Azerbaijan silk embroidery (£4,000-6,000), a Greek Island (probably Levkas) embroidered panel (£4,000-6,000) and an Ottoman silver-thread embroidered mihrab panel, circa 1900, originally from the collection of Sultan Mehmet VI (£30,000-50,000).
