Fine Persian town rugs in Copenhagen at Bruun Rasmussen’s February 2014 sale
Copenhagen art auctioneers Bruun Rasmussen’s first international sale of the year on 26 February 2014 included a good selection of fine 20th century Persian workshop pieces. According to expert Henrik Schleppegrell, both demand and bidding were strong, especially for a small collection of ten signed Serafian rugs.
The individual carpet highlight of the sale was an exceptionally fine (1.21 million knots per square metre) early 2oth century silk Kashan rug, with saffron-dyed yellow warps, it made €20,500. Attributed to the Tafazoli master weaver workshop, a type seldom seen on the market, it was provananced to the private collection of the well-known Danish rug dealer Holger Jensen, founder in the mid-2oth century of an oriental carpet dynasty, in the form of the prestigious ‘Orienttæpper i Nærum’ carpet company.
