The Orientalist Sale at Sotheby’s London

This season’s Orientalist sale will take place during Islamic Art Week at Sotheby’s, New Bond Street, on 8 April 2014, with viewing taking place 4 – 8 April.

Masterpieces by leading artists are featured depicting scenes and landscapes of Turkey, the Middle East and North Africa. Egypt is the focus of an animated work from 1909 by Ludwig Deutsch (Lot 7), depicting the Mahmal travelling on camelback through the streets of Cairo en route to Mecca. Daily life in the streets of the Middle East is depicted in fine examples from Rudolf Ernst, Charles Théodore Frère, and David Roberts RA.
