Skinner Boston’s first carpet auction with Lawrence Kearney, 22 March 2014
Skinner, Boston, will present Lawrence Kearney’s first sale as Director of Fine Oriental Rugs & Carpets. Kearney’s debut with Skinner will feature a curated selection of fine carpets from New England homes, as well as an assortment of antique textiles, including Kashmir shawls, Ottoman textiles, and Central Asian embroideries. The auction viewing will be from 20-22 March 2014, and the sale will take place at 12pm on 22 March 2014, 63 Park Plaza, Boston. Highlights include early Turkish rugs from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, a Borjalu Kazak rug from the late 19th Century, and an early Epirus embroidery of circa 1700. Of this piece, Kearney notes, “This embroidery bears extraordinarily lovely drawing. It is fully intact and complete – something we rarely see with this type of antique textile.” Kearney comes to Skinner with a distinguished background in the world of rugs and textiles, as a well-respected dealer of more than 30 years, and of letters, as an American poet of note. He is assisted by Erika Jorjorian, a textile artist with academic training in applied arts and art history.
