The Sultan's Garden concentrates on the floral style in the realm of carpets and textiles tracing it from its inception through its evolution over centuries. It is written on the ocassion of the exhibition of the same name at The Textile Museum in Washington DC from September 21st 2012 to march 10th 2013. These textile artworks, of the highest importance and beauty, tell the story of the Ottoman floral style's birth and its adoption and adaption across time and geographical areas.
About the Author
Walter B. Denny has served as a Trustee of The Textile Museum (Washington) and was for three decades Honorary Curator of Carpets and Textiles at the Harvard University Art Museums in Cambridge. He served as Senior Scholar in Residence in the Department of Islamic Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from 2007 to 2017, contributing to the completion of the Museum's new galleries of the arts of Arab Lands, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia and later South Asia. Sumru Belger Krody joined The Textile Museum in 1994 and was appointed Chief Curator/Avenir Foundation Curator in 2025. Additionally, she is editor in chief of The Textile Museum Journal. She occasionally teaches courses at GW’s Corcoran School of the Arts & Design.
