‘Opulence’, at Christie’s New York on Thursday 13th April 2017 has a strong focus on 19th century furniture and decorative arts, including 34 rugs and carpets. Over the last couple of years, Henry’s auctioneers in the ancient German Rhineland city of Mutterstadt have emerged as enthusiastic international purveyors of traditional old and antique oriental carpets. Their sixth sale comprises pile rugs, kilims and sumakhs from most of the major carpet weaving areas, as well as Scandinavian folk textiles, many of them unpublished and from private collections.
The European rug auction scene, after its long summer break, gets back in the swing of things.

Among the wide range of consignments, including paintings, furniture, silver, ceramics, jewellery, objets d’art, and luxury curiosities, ‘all descending from or with a strong connection to royal and aristocratic European collections’, to be offered in Sotheby’s ‘Of Royal and Noble Descent’ sale on 24 February 2015 is a small group of oriental and European carpets.
Rippon Boswell’s major autumn sale in Wiesbaden, Germany on Saturday 29th November 2014 includes more than 260 lots of selected antique carpets, rugs, flatweaves, tapestries, embroideries and other textiles, as well as rare books.
On 18 November 2014, Christie’s New York will hold ‘The Opulent Eye’ sale of 19th century furniture, sculpture, works of art, ceramics, glass and carpets.
