HALI Tour to Spain & Portugal
In May 2015, HALI is leading a rug and textile tour to Spain and Portugal. This is the third HALI Tour and the first tour with our new partner Martin Randall Travel, the foremost specialist in expert-led cultural tours. Bringing together Martin Randall’s 26 years of travel experience with HALI’s 36 years of rug knowledge, the tour promises to include the cultural highlights of Spain and Portugal and offer unique insight into the Iberian peninsula’s unexplored textile heritage.
The rug and textile heritage of Spain and Portugal has until now never received the attention its rich tradition deserves. The HALI Tour with Martin Randall Travel will take a major step towards redressing that injustice, focusing on the institutional collections of medieval Spanish carpets and textiles, the oriental rugs held in museum collections, and some of the finest collections of tapestries in Europe. Led by both a HALI member of staff and an art historian, the tour will show historic landmarks alongside textile highlights, and offer the luxury of four- and five-star accommodation.
