Dyeing the Grid at William Siegal Gallery, Santa Fe

‘Dyeing the Grid’ is the latest exhibition to combine contemporary art and ancient textiles at the William Siegal Gallery, Santa Fe.
The exhibition, which runs until 13 October 2015, features paintings by abstractionist Lynne Gelfman whose work references her collection of African and Latin American basketry and textile fragments amassed over the past forty years. These are on show alongside a selection of pre-Columbian textiles from the William Siegal collection. Both the gallery owner and artist have close ties with South and Central America – Gelfman set up a flower farm outside Bogotá, Colombia in the 1970s and Siegal moved to La Paz, Bolivia the same decade in order to collect and study ceremonial weavings of the Aymara people.
