San Francisco Tribal & Textile Art Show Preview

The annual San Francisco Tribal and Textile Art Show will open on 7 February 2019 at the Fort Mason Center. The show is the premier place to see antique tribal textiles and rugs in the US. A strong complement of exhibitors, both old hands and new arrivals, means that there will be something for everyone among the astonishing variety of objects on display. The featured country in 2019 will be Fiji, and noteworthy exhibitors include Thomas Murray, whose Toraja textile can be seen below. The show will run from 7-10 February 2019. An exhibition of pioneering documentary photographs by Angela Fisher and Carol Beckwith will also be on view at the San Francisco Tribal and Textile Show; ‘African Twilight: Vanishing Rituals & Ceremonies of the African Continent’ celebrates Africa’s cultural heritage. The photographs and videos, taken over 40 years in 45 countries, were recently shown at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, California, and the accompanying publication of the same title was extremely well received by tribal art enthusiasts visiting Tribal Art London last September. The renowned photographers and explorers will give three talks and then sign copies of their book in San Francisco, at midday on the 8, 9 and 10 February.
