Parcours des mondes 2015 is currently underway, running 8 – 15 September in the heart of Paris. This is the 14th edition of the fair, which sees fifty of the world’s most important dealers of Asian and tribal art exhibiting in their colleagues’ permanent galleries in the Beaux-Arts district of Saint-Germain-de-Pres.
Altogether 84 specialist galleries are represented, with a new policy of featuring art from all continents greatly broadening the artistic scope. Pierre Moos, the event’s director said: “Opening the show to Asian art represents a natural evolution for us, and a response to a growing interest on the part of collectors, and of dealers, who are organizing more and more exhibitions focused on Asia, Nepal, Tibet and Indonesia.”
Around thirty thematic exhibitions are presented. One that specifically relates to weaving is ‘Heddle pulleys from the African continent’ by Dimondstein Tribal Arts, Los Angeles at 19, rue Mazarine. ‘Classical Dayak Art of Borneo’ by Thomas Murray at 3, rue des Beaux-Arts includes textiles alongside sculptures ranging from small charms to giant guardian figures, and Mehmet Hassan Asian Art presents a special 25th anniversary show ‘Art from the Himalayas and China’ at Galerie Anne + Just Jaeckin, 19, rue Guénégaud. Other exhibitors making an appearance are Jonathon Hope, Alexis Renard, Galerie Mingei and Kapil Jariwala.
