Timed to coincide with the last day of the London Masterpiece Fair, Sotheby’s prestigious evening sale on 3 June 2013 of Treasures, Princely Taste, consisting of 49 well-provenanced works of art from the Renaissance to the 20th century, totalled £9,218,850. Among the successful lots were two well-known Classical period Oriental carpets consigned by the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection.

All 61 lots in The Andy Williams Collection of Navajo Blankets (actually 58 blankets and three baskets) on Tuesday 21 May at Sotheby’s in New York found buyers, for a total of just under a million dollars.
Top lot in Skinner’s Boston sale of Oriental Rugs and Carpets on 11 May was lot 118, this high class Shahrisyabz embroidery, with the classic four and one design in both field and border, which fetched $50,000 against a paltry estimate of just $2,000-3.000. While not a world record, it is one of the highest prices ever paid for the type, and indeed for suzanis of any label.
