The Dallas Museum of Art’s focused exhibition features the museum’s recently acquired textiles by the Bamana peoples of Mali. On display until December 4, 2022 ‘Bamana Mud Cloth: From Mali to the World’ explores the complete labor-intensive process and identifies how the distinctive patterns have been used in Western products, from designer clothing to home furnishings. While an interactive display in the exhibition allows patrons to create their own bogolanfini design using some of the Bamana people’s motifs.
‘Indian Textiles:1,000 years of art and design’ opens from 22 January to 6 June 2022 and is accompanied by a limited-edition catalogue which includes essays by leading historians of Indian textiles, including Rosemary Crill, Steven Cohen, Avalon Fotheringham and Sylvia Houghteling and will showcase court weavings, folk embroideries and other fabrics from the 9th – early 20th centuries.
