100 Kelims from the Neiriz Collection at the Volkspark Halle

One hundred exceptional antique Persian, Caucasian and Anatolian tribal and village kilims and other flatweaves from the collection of Berlin artist/art dealer/ethnographic textile specialist Hamid Sadighi Neiriz will be on public display for the first time in the Volkspark Halle, in the town of Halle, Germany from 6-30 November 2014.

The Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle has been offering textile courses since its foundation in 1915, and recently acquired the Staatliche Textil- und Gobelinmanufaktur Halle. This exhibition is an extension of the university’s engagement with textiles, and aims to reach out to a younger audience, broaden horizons, and create new opportunities. In the words of Hamid Sadight Neiriz, ‘Young people have unused eyes’. The exhibition opens on the evening of 5 November with a keynote speech by Dr Friedrich Spuhler, former curator at the Museum fur Islamische Kunst in Berlin/Dahlem.
