Art from Indonesia and New Guinea at Yale University
Taking place until 1 February 2015, East of the Wallace Line: Monumental Art from Indonesia and New Guinea at the Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, will investigate the cultural characteristics from its starting point the ‘Wallace Line’. It is an ecological delineation between Bali and Lombok, first recognised by British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace.
Over 120 works from the 17th to 19th centuries include large-scale sculptures and textiles alongside more personal objects and domestic objects. The exhibition features highlights from the Gallery’s permanent collection and select loans, many either too large or too fragile to be regularly displayed.
Look out for our exhibition review in the upcoming Autumn 2014 issue of HALI.
