Battersea Winter Fair, 21-26 January 2014
The London Winter Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair returns to the tent in Battersea Park from 21 to 26 January 2014. Its reputation continues to attract international buyers, designers and exhibitors seeking excellent decorative furnishings and antiques and once again there promises to be an enticing selection of interesting rugs, world textiles and ethnographic art.
London textile and tribal art dealer Clive Loveless Primal Art will offer a couple of rare Dayak ceremonial woven rattan mats from Borneo alongside early Scandinavian wooden dowry objects and an early 20th century painting by Guy Worsdall, a lesser member of the St. Ives group of artists. Oriental carpet specialist Joshua Lumley from Egerton in Kent will present a comprehensive range of large antique carpets from Europe, Persia and Morocco including a Ziegler, a Kerman, a Swedish runner with inscription and an unusual art deco piece.
The Jane Austin inspired foyer will feature a classic Aubusson rug with an 18th century style design and an accomplished late 18th century silk needlework of a basket of fruit. Original needlework upholstery has also survived on a rather wonderful William and Mary chair to be exhibited by Wakelin & Linfield. Other UK exhibitors of note include Gallery Yacou with European and Oriental decorative carpets Jenny Hicks Beach with tribal kilims, ikats and suzanis, Katherine Pool with antique French textiles, Molly Hogg Antique Textiles, Pars Rug Gallery and Slothert & Trice tribal art.
