To Open Eyes: Art and Textiles from the Bauhaus to Today

As an accompaniment to the German city’s 800th anniversary at the heart of the linen weaving industry, the Kunsthalle, Bielefeld, hosts ‘To Open Eyes: Art and Textiles from the Bauhaus to Today’ until 16 February 2014. The exhibition celebrates the elevation of textiles from mere handicraft to a more complicated creative endeavour. A major focus is on tapestries, fabric patterns, and designs by Bauhaus artists. The works on display range from the 1960s to contemporary pieces by artists who have rediscovered the ‘craft’ of textiles, re-examining and experimenting with new forms of expression.
