Major May antique rug and textile auction in Wiesbaden
Unlike the Vok II sale in March, the second major auction of antique rugs and textiles of 2016 at Rippon Boswell will contain items from many different collections and provenances. The Vok sales are becoming high points in the antique rug market both in terms of quality and results, and indeed for Rippon Boswell, but they certainly should and do not overshadow Rippon Boswell’s regular twice yearly sales. With over 250 lots the spring sale on May 28 contains materials suited to less deep pockets, there are a few pieces that appear to be estimated on the lower side of their market value, such as the auction various sumakh bags. The sale also offers a brief glimpse of the individuality and variety within certain well known rug genres by virtue of there being several examples of rugs types on offer such as three Borchalu Kazaks and two Chelaberd Kazaks.
