More Clark Classical Carpets from SNY’s Record Breaking 5 June Sale
The world record setting Clark sickle leaf Kerman carpet, the massive Lafoes Esfahan, and the extraordinarily rare and beautiful Cairene round carpet, have hogged the headlines, but there were also another 22 lots sold for astonishing prices in Sotheby’s 100% successful sale of Classical Persian, Egyptian and Indian carpets in New York on 5 June. In addition to the Kerman, the bulk of the Corcoran/Clark consignment consisted of Central Persian Safavid era carpets – a wide range of 17th century red-ground wool pile Esfahan carpets and rugs (17 including the Lafoes), and three silk ‘Polonaises’.
