Rugs from the Amadi Collection
An exhibition of rugs from the Amadi Collection and architectural pottery opens tomorrow – Thursday 17 March – at The Palos Verdes Art Center in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
West Hollywood-based company Amadi Carpets is owned by the Ahmadi family, who have been producing hand-knotted rugs in Afghanistan for the past three generations. This selection of rugs from the Amadi Collection include fine historic works from across the globe, from Ottoman textiles and Native American rugs to examples from Morocco, Persia and India. The display entitled ‘Crafted: Rugs from the Amadi Collection & Architectural Pottery’ will also feature a number of contemporary rugs, for example a beautiful Erased Heritage design by Jan Kath. As part of the exhibition there will be an Antiques Rug Show and Sale on Sunday 3 April at 2-4 pm. You can bring your antique rugs to PVAC where Zubair Ahmadi will be on hand to examine and describe your heirlooms.
Sitting alongside the rugs will be ceramics from the award winning Architectural Pottery Collection. Founded by Max and Rita Lawrence in 1950 with designers La Gordo Tackett, John Folis and Rex Goode, Manhattan Beach-based Architectural Pottery revolutionised ceramic design by introducing clean geometries and a notable lack of ornament. The Museum of Modern Art in New York exhibited Architectural Pottery pieces as early as 1951.
The show was curated by Zubair Ahmadi and Joe Baker.
