Artcurial’s second auction dedicated exclusively to Scandinavian design features three noteworthy 20th-century Swedish carpets.
Following a successful inaugural Scandinavian design auction in May 2015, the evening sale on 1 December in Paris includes carpets by Märta Måås-Fjetterström, Barbro Nilsson and Marianne Richter. The latter is responsible for the textile star lot, a large wool rug titled Rubiarosa Blue (lot 45, estimate €40,000-60,000). It was designed by Richter in 1958 and executed by AB MMF. Blue tones, ranging from turquoise to purple, make up a geometric pattern of triangles, squares and rectangles.
Märta Måås-Fjetterström and Barbro Nilsson’s offerings, Porslin (lot 42) and Nejlikan (lot 106), display more muted palettes where brown, mustard and burnt orange are the leading colours.
