Vok Collection: Selection 1 Auction

Vok Collection Rippon Boswell

Luri kilim, Sisacht tribe, southwest Persia, Kuhgilujeh area, north of Yassudj, early 20th century. 2.50 m x 1.51 m (8′ 2″ x 4′ 11″). Lot 85, estimate €3,500–€4,500

The Vok Collection: Selection 1 auction will take place on 11 April 2015 at Rippon Boswell, Wiesbaden.

For the past forty years or so, Ignazio Vok has brought his personal style to the world of kilim and suzani collecting. Unashamedly pursuing pieces based on his own aesthetic sensibilities rather than traditional connoisseurship, he has helped transform the manner of collecting as well as what is considered collectable. Now in his seventies, Vok has decided to part with his collection through three auctions at Rippon Boswell in just over two years. The sale in April constitutes the first instalment, and includes rural and nomadic flatwoven kilims and covers from Persia and the Transcaucasus as well as a fine selection of Central Asian suzani embroideries.

In keeping with the four books cataloguing his assembled textiles, published 1994-2006, the catalogues accompanying the sales are intended as works of art in their own right.
