In New York tomorrow, 22 October, Sotheby’s sale of ‘Important English and European [sic] Decorative Arts’, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco are ‘deacquisitioning’ four late classical oriental carpet fragments – two Caucasian and two Chinese.
There was a distinctly autumnal feel about the recent London sales season, at least as far as antique rugs and textiles were concerned. That said, there is a small medallion Ushak rug consigned by ‘a German Lady, a Yomut white ground ‘tree’ asmalyk from a French collection, and the second Tekke embroidered asmalyk in the London sales.
