An upcoming exhibition at The International Design Museum, Munich, from 14 September 2013 till 6 January 2014, will focus on the Moroccan carpet collection, assembled over several decades, by Professor Jürgen Adam, a Munich architect. The museum is one of two Bavarian state run museums that are dedicated to design, and the exhibition will help place Moroccan carpets at the heart of European avant-garde art and modernism, a subject that has been visited many times in HALI over the years.
As Islamic law prohibits the depiction of human beings, this has resulted in many radical forms of abstraction in the art of the Maghreb Berbers. The art and rugs produced have a very modern approach, with bold colours and shapes, even though they are decades old.
