From the Exotic to the Mystical: Woven Treasures from the Permanent Collection, at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park until 4 August 2013, consists of more than 40 objects, most never before on public display, representing 15 centuries of textile arts drawn from the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco’s extensive holdings.
Red, White and Bold: Masterworks of Navajo Design, 1840-1870, at the Denver Art Museum until 22 September 2013, presents about 50 of the greatest examples of Navajo design expression.
This week the Denver Art Museum (DAM) will be unveiling a new gallery space, Cover Story, which will exhibit over sixty artefacts from the museum’s textile collection. The objects explore the ways in which textiles have been used by different cultures across centuries of time.
All 61 lots in The Andy Williams Collection of Navajo Blankets (actually 58 blankets and three baskets) on Tuesday 21 May at Sotheby’s in New York found buyers, for a total of just under a million dollars.
